Brigadooon 2008
- 31st Annual Highland Gathering
The Ultltimate Scottish Experience'
The Bundanoon Highland Gathering is the premier Highland gathering in New South Wales and is a major tourism attraction to the Southern Highlands. Each year 15,000 visitors visit the area to celebrate 'Brigadoon'. This year on Saturday 5th of April, Bundanoon is Brigadoon®for its 31st annual year!
The day begins with a parade at 9.30am as hundreds of pipes and drums, colorful floats and displays, marchers, vintage cars make their way to the grounds for the games. Visitors from all over Australia descend on the village for the day which includes massed bands display, Scottish country and highland dancing and highland games. Why not test your skills and participate in competitions such as caber toss, kilted dash, egg throwing, hay toss, haggis hurling or for the less energetic the dress competitions. Also worth trying are some of the Highland delicacies including haggis, blood pudding, square sausage and the more appealing famous Scottish Shortbread.
Tickets are available from the gates-the profits from their sale contributing to many worthwhile charities and community causes in the Bundanoon area. Free car parking is available adjacent to the grounds (take the western road over 'Brigadoon Bridge" along the railway as you approach from Moss Vale or the bridge near the Country Inn if approaching from Penrose.) A courtesy bus also operates from the station to Brigadoon throughout the day.
Brigadoon is perfect for a family fun day out.
This year Bundanoon kicks off on Bundanoon Oval at 9.30am with Pre-Games Entertainment by NSW Police Concert Band.
